Pastor Carroll co-authored a resource for an advanced lay speaking course on preaching in 2001 – From Your Heart to Theirs: Delivering an Effective Sermon.
Reverend Harold “Rusty” White serves as administrator of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. He relates to the Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees and manages the day-to-day routines of the church office. As an Associate Pastor, he teaches and preaches as needed. His favorite teaching subject is church history.
Rusty is married to the former Donna Lynn Humphries and they have two daughters, Lauren and Lesley. The Whites have two granddaughters, 8 and 5, and a two-year-old grandson. A large portion of Donna and Rusty’s time is dedicated to their grandchildren.
An ordained Deacon and Elder in the Mississippi Annual Conference, Rusty received a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School. He also graduated from Mississippi State University with a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in business and industry.
The ordained ministry is a second vocational path for Rusty. He spent 15 years in manufacturing production control working as a planner, purchaser, inventory control manager and line supervisor. He spent five years of his life in sales. After a 20-year discernment of God’s calling for him, he found his answer in the ordained ministry.
Rusty has a long history of involvement in the community, such as memberships in several various civic organizations and a special love for all forms of youth ministry, especially scouting. His hobbies include camping, canoeing, fishing and gardening.
Local and global missions, along with his personal faith journey, have been instrumental in the formation of Rusty's Wesleyan theology of a healthy balance between works and grace. This theology underwrites what he construes as his personal vision of the church and life in general. This is a vision that is amenable with the mission of the United Methodist Church and St. Matthew's UMC. In a setting of family relationships, he hopes to be about the business of making disciples of Jesus Christ through word, service, sacrament and order both within the walls of St. Matthew's and in the world.
