Older Adult Ministries

St. Matthew’s Older Adult Ministry is a vital part of our church, reaching out to members ages 65 and older. Through Sunday school classes, group meetings, Bible studies and other activities geared toward seniors, this ministry focuses on the spiritual needs of older adults and seeks to keep this growing group active within the church.

In September 2008, St. Matthew’s hosted a conference called “Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century” featuring Dr. Richard Gentzler, a highly sought-after speaker and author of several books on the subject of older-adult ministries. During the conference, Gentzler cited population trends, which reflect the need for emphasizing older-adult ministries. Among the statistics he gave: “The population of persons ages 65 and over increased from 3 million in 1900 to 35 million in 2000 and will reach 72 million by 2030,” and “older adults will soon outnumber both children and youth.”
