Preschool Program

St. Matthew's Preschool program is just one of the ways we reach our local community for Christ. We are licensed by the State of Mississippi and all teachers are required to have at least 15 training hours per year.

Mission Statement

The Preschool program, as a ministry of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, believes each child is a child of God and should have every opportunity to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually to his or her fullest potential.

Philosophy

The Preschool program of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church:

• Establishes a warm, loving environment in which each child is given the opportunities to develop a sense of self-worth and to develop his or her own unique gifts.
• Provides each child with a natural transition from home to school while developing skills to meet new challenges through the use of age-level appropriate activities and materials.
• Has a commitment to excellence reflecting the highest values, the best of care and the expectation that staff members exemplify Christian ideals in their behavior toward and relationships with each child.
• Believes that play is fundamental to each child’s learning and to his or her social and emotional development.
• Has a commitment to good stewardship in the areas of space utilization, fiscal management, materials use and human resources.

Hours of Operation

The normal operating hours for our Preschool program are 8:30-11:30 a.m.

We offer Early Drop-Off every morning beginning at 8 a.m. for an additional fee.

We offer Lunch Bunch each day during the normal school year from 11:30-1:30 for an additional fee. (Lunch Bunch is not offered during the summer program.)

We are on the same closing schedule as the Madison County Schools.

Ages

Our Preschool program includes infants beginning at six weeks of age and goes through 4-year-old pre-K.

Preschool Curriculum

• Thematic units – a more hands-on approach to teaching.  Our goal for your children upon graduation from our preschool program is they will be well prepared for kindergarten. 
• Handwriting Without Tears – for our 3- and 4-year-old programs.
• Units of study during the year will include seasons; weather; holidays; home and family; colors, numbers and letters; community helpers – just to name a few.
• Field trips are only offered to children in the 3- and 4-year-old programs.
• Tentative field trips include: pumpkin patch, zoo, Natural Science Museum.

Preschool Fees

Summer Preschool Program
Registration Fee – $60
Activity Fee* – $30
Monthly Tuition:
June $101.25 (closed for week of Vacation Bible School)
July $135

*Activity fee will cover all needed resources and activities that we will provide (daily lessons, worship material, snacks and excursions).

Fall/Spring Preschool Program
Registration Fee – $80
Monthly Tuition – 1 day a week = $100/month, 2 days = $135/month, 3 days = $170/month, 4 days = $180/month, 5 days = $190/month
Supply Fee-1 day a week=$75/yr, 2 days=$100/yr, 3 days=$130/yr, 4 days=$140/yr, 5 days=$150/yr  (half paid in Aug. & half paid in Jan.)

If at any time a family withdraws, they must repay their entry fees to be readmitted to the program.
