Responding to the Flooding in Louisiana

We are preparing to provide assistance to flood victims in Louisiana and Mississippi. It you are interested in, send us an email!

We need team leaders and members. In our initial response you will work alongside homeowners and Baton rouge residents to help clean and remove debris. We are working on scheduling. Please indicate the length of time you will be available, weekend, four to seven days.

Our scope of work could look like the following:

  • Debris removal to curb
  • Mud/dirt removal
  • Cleaning of surfaces and appliances
  • Removal of sheetrock/walls, to 1 foot above the water line
  • Spraying of bleach to deter growth of mold

You will be housed at First United Methodist Church in the Youth Facility. They will provide meals, hot showers, and a comfy-ish bunk bed. We will need to bring our own tools and supplies for debris removal or constructions, as most tools and supplies are not available in the Baton Rouge area.

We expect to bring the following:

  • Large shovels
  • Wheelbarrows
  • Skill saws/straight saws
  • Chalk lines
  • Squeegee brooms
  • Push brooms
  • Box fans

Each member of the work team should also bring the following:

  • Closed toe shoes
  • Protective eye wear
  • Hammer and crowbar/wonderbar
  • Work gloves
  • Safety mask for face
  • Water bottle
  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Towel and toiletries
  • Work clothes
