Ash Wednesday is the day where we begin our 40 Day walk towards Lent. In this season, we will pray, we will fast, and we will seek to grow closer to our God and to each other.. This year during Lent at St. Matthew's we will even engage in some shared discipline of fasting. We invite you to learn more by visiting this page and we'd love for you to join us.
The beginning of Lent is Ash Wednesday. The reason why ashes are so important on this day is because throughout scripture, ashes are a symbol for repentance. We mark ourselves with ashes to show that we see our need for repentance and that we know that we can only turn to God for life. We repent of our sins, we plead mercy from our God.
This year on Ash Wednesday, we will have several opportunities to receive ashes, weather permitting.
1. Throughout the Day - Contact the church office anytime throughout the day, and one of our clergy persons will be glad to connect with you place the ashes upon you.
2. Wednesday Night Live Meal Line - During the pick up for our meal, we will be at the head of the line, giving ashes to any who would like to receive them within their cars
3. In-Person Worship - We will be having an Ash Wednesday service this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. We will follow our worship protocols and will provide a safe, socially distanced worship experience this Wednesday.
